On September 17th we went to Puyallup Fair, the Western Washington
State Fair, the biggest fair in the state.
Walt "Sugar Bear" at the main gate.
Gregg trying out the new products.
The Puyallup Fair is one of my guilty pleasures. I don't go
every year, but maybe every 3rd year.
The first year I went I was 8 years old. I remember I had the
tough choice of going to the fair with my neighbors, or staying home
to watch the final episode of Howdy Doody. Was my childhood somehow
diminished for not hearing Clarabell speak when he said "good bye"?
I went my with neighbors and their grandparents. I remember I
got a live chameleon on a string that I wore on my shirt and going to
the horse races. |
Carnival games. Sugar Bear and I actually won stuff here.

We didn't do so well at Skee Ball and
the Biting Frog game.

At the time it seemed like a good idea for picture.
Shopping for hats... but none were purchased.
 Talk about a slippery slope.

As as kid, I don't recall ever going to the fair with Mom,
Dad & Buzz. The first time I remember going with Dad was in 1978.
I must have gone sometime between 1960 & 1978, but I don't remember
when or with who. I don't think I ever went with Mom.
During the early 1990's I went every year with a group of TM guys.
It was difficult finding a place to meditate, but we always did.
My favorite part of the fair is the vege-matic shows. I love to
watch the pitchmen sell their magic mops, food slicers & dicers, tools
of tomorrow and various snake oils. I usually come home with some
fantastic purchase. |
