Road Trip! Driving to Lazy Bear

A few more pictures of Humbug Beach in very southern Oregon.  I highly recommend this place anytime you are traveling/camping in the area.  It is so nice -- off the hiway, far enough from the major destinations that it wasn't at all crowded.  There were only 4 campsites filled, and there were only 5 other people on the beach besides us.

We drove through the darkness down in to California where we stopped for the night at a rest area on 101.  After we woke up at 7AM in the rest area, had a quick cup of something hot, drove about 3 miles to the "Avenue of the Giants".  This is the must see area for a drive through the California Redwoods.  It is about a 15-20 mile side road with plenty of places to pull over and walk through the trees.

At one area, we cooked some breakfast, took a morning swim/bath in the river and got the van stuck in loose gravel.  Only a slight set back.  We were on our way by late morning.  We resisted the urge to stop at the "Mystery Spot" and headed on for Guerneville.  We arrived there by 6 PM.

We liked this beach the best of all the places we saw along the Oregon coast.

Did mention Barry is a photographer? He shoots still lifes for toy and doll magazines. He must appreciate the ability to be animated in front of the camera.

The camping sites for this park are a short walk up the river. The trail goes underneath the hiway bridge.

We went down the rivere for a swim and got stuck in the loose gravel. Jack let a lot of air out of the tire and we easily pulled out. With a cigarette lighter powered compressor, the tires were refilled enough to drive a few miles to a gas station.
