An obligatory picture spot. There are lots of local panhandlers willing
to take your picture (but hopefully not your camera) for a tip. |
We gave the guy 5 bucks. After all, he was providing a valuable service
-- that is, not playing a guitar and singing Jimmy Buffet songs. (We were
in Key West during a "Parrot Head" convention. If I heard "Margaritaville"
one more time...) |
One of the "must do" things in Key West is rent a motor scooter for
a few hours. The place is overrun with them. At
times it seems like you are in the middle of a swarm of giant, angry hornets. |
You had to take a little driving test before they would let you take
the scooter. They were very squirrelly to drive (compared to
motorcycle), but a lot of fun. We did manage to get to a few
out of the way spots that we wouldn't have seen on foot. |
The view from the deck outside our room at the B&B. |
A different view from the same deck. It was a bit more than a B&B.
They also had a cocktail hour, pool and hot tub. |
We flew out of Key West the next morning. |
A nice place to visit, I had a good time.
But I don't think I would go back. It seems like the best time
to have been there might have been 20 years earlier, before it was cleaned
up and had Sun Glass Hut stores and Eddie Bauer outlets. |
