The drive along the Hana Hiway is spectacular in itself. The few times we went off the road and did a little exploring we found the best stuff. The Blue Pool was one of those side trips.

Off the Hana Hiway, down a long dirt road, past the sign saying 4-wheel drive
only (not needed), we parked. We walk down to the river and see a pool.

Many people see the pool and say "big deal" and walk away. Luckily we had a good guide book.

Walk beyond the river pool, down to the very rocky (small boulders more than rocks) beach, cross the river and walk another 200 yards.

See the little water falls in the shady dark area?
Way above Greg? That is the water feeding "Blue Pool".

Early December is at the end of the dry season, so the
falls aren't that great. But the pool is inviting.

We are the only people here, so off with the clothes.

And into the Blue Pool we go.

The water is cool compared to the ocean, but nothing like what we are used to around Washington State.

This is a very idyllic place.

Despite the fact there were lots of cars parked at the end of the road, we had the pool to ourselves for quite a while.

If you look close you can see my head in the middle of the falls.

This is not a recognized nude beach. So when Greg & Guy said there were people coming our way, we jumped (or crawled in my case) out of the pool and back into some clothes.

Walking (or stumbling over the huge rocks) back to the
car. Did anyone notice... the water in the pool was green
not blue.
Oh well, what is in a name.

This was one of many delightful side trips we took off the Hana Hiway. Driving and looking from
Jeep was great. It was even greater when we got out of the
Jeep and looked a little deeper.
