| After walking along the narrow path, scratched out of the side of the crumbly cinder cone, we come to the Red Beach of Hana. |
| Notice how the inner part of the bay is partially protected by the rock barrier. |
| This small bay is clothing optional.
And because it is difficult to find, not many people go here. |
| This spot... the combination of the cliffs, red sand, the barrier, the waves... was undoubtedly my favorite spot of all our travels on Maui. |
| The "sand" was quite coarse. In the water it was even more coarse, more like the lava rock you might find
in a gas bar-b-que. I wore aqua sox to protect my feet. |
| Notice how the waves break through the openings in the barrier wall.
It made for some fantastic fun. |
| A quiet moment between wave sets. |
| I won't even try to write enough superlatives to explain how utterly stupendous this spot is. |
| I give all thanks to Alan, a photographer that Jack has worked with, for giving us the secret directions to get here. |
| Greg & Guy in the wave free zone. |
| Jack walking out to the take the brunt
force of the wave. |
| A wimpy wave. |
| Me & Jack in the protective shadow of the barrier. |
| Greg & Jack in the middle of the "tub". |
| The next time I go to Maui, I'm going to spend a night in Hana, just so I can spend a whole day here. |
| I would go out and hang on to rock just below where the waves came in.
It was brutal like a good massage. No real danger and I didn't get hurt. |
| Did I say I liked this place? |
| Does this look like fun, or am I just crazy? |
| We only got to stay and play here about an hour. The Hana Hiway is an all day adventure in itself.
And we were taking lots of side trips. |
| Can you see Jack? He is the dark spot at the bottom of the foam. |
| Jack |

| Jack and Greg. Waving "Aloha". |
| Notice the little path scratched out of the cinder cone. |
